FAQs

What do I need to bring to class?

We recommend you bring a mat and a water bottle. We provide props to make your practice more comfortable. Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily.

i’ve tried yoga and it was painful, why would that be if it’s supposed to be so good for everyone?

Movement shouldn’t hurt but sometimes it does and all movement isn't good for all people. There are many styles of yoga so we suggest starting with a style that works for you with a knowledgeable teacher. Ask plenty of questions until you find what works for you. Pain is an indication something needs to change, the movement is the problem not you, expect the best for yourself.

WHich class is best for Beginners?

You are welcome to attend any class that works with your schedule. The differences are the pace of which we move in class therefore a Flow Class will be taught at a quicker pace than a Hatha or Restorative Class. We encourage our students to engage in whatever they need in the moment. It’s not about trying to keep up, or do what everyone else is doing, it’s about defining what you need from your practice each time you step on your mat so that when you step off you are not feeling depleted.

What is the difference between yoga and Integral movement classes?

Integral Movement Systems was created by Lisa Babiuk from the perspective of fascia and living tensegrity or biotensegrity. The main difference between the two is the philosophy of yoga is not integrated into Integral classes. We do use the model of tension and compression to an extent in all of our classes as it follows our nature. You may find crossover as the body and mind connection is always in dialogue in any movement but yoga philosophy is specific to our yoga classes.

I am an experienced Yoga Practioner, what do you offer to those wishing to deepen their practice?

Continuous self exploration through the philosophies of yoga woven into a new experience every time you step on your mat from an interoceptive experience through the systems that make the whole self: body, mind and spirit offer a different perspective to physical postures. Our focus is the experience not the destination which will vary from practice to practice.

What is living tensegrity or biotensegrity?

The term "biotensegrity" was coined by Dr Stephen Levin and refers to a continuous tensional network independent of gravity and self stabilizing. We do not need external support and do not collapse or fall over without it. Approaching movement from this model, we fine tune the fascial system for adaptability and efficiency in all movement because we work with the tension element and the compression element as living architecture. Confusing? Yes it can be but come and experience a class and it will become more clear and familiar because it's your nature.
